When the current iteration of the Suzuki Baleno was unveiled in 2015, it brought forward a new Suzuki design language (Liquid Flow), new specifications and new compact hatch design principles. A number of models followed swiftly and maintained the same principles of improved design as well as an impressive power-to-weight ratio. The Suzuki brand is now proud to announce the brand-new Baleno, a vehicle that will surely excite all drivers.
Launched to a global market in India, the next-generation Suzuki Baleno brings forth a new design philosophy entitled Crafted Futurism. With it, comes the continued focus of low weight and high power. Brendon Carpenter, Brand Marketing Manager of Suzuki Auto South Africa has stated the following: “We are very excited about the new Suzuki Baleno. Not only will it prove a treat for Baleno buyers, but it also signals all the exciting models and upgrades we can expect from Suzuki in the coming decade”.
For Suzuki, Crafted Futurism is more than just a catchy slogan. It is a promise that every new Suzuki Baleno comes with. The car features a wider front air intake, a new three-dimensional grille design as well as a new interior, where a multi-layered dashboard creates the impression of space. Utilising higher-grade materials, the seats in the new Baleno offer both function and style, and are an excellent example of the Liquid Flow philosophy.
A boost in specifications also arrives with this next-generation vehicle. With the GL model, cruise control, climate control and rear-mounted air vents will now be standard. Safety is also a focus as a number of safety features will remain, including Electronic Stability Programme, dual front airbags with ABS, electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) and emergency brake assistance (BAS).
When it comes to the GLX variant, the new Baleno has all the luxuries of the GL with a number of important additions. A key component is the 9” high-definition infotainment system that will make use of the Baleno’s 360-degree view camera system. The GLX also has 6 airbags, LED daytime running lights, LED projector headlights, keyless entry, a push-button start and dual-colour 16” alloy wheels.
Under the bonnet, the next-generation Baleno offers first-class performance. The K15B engine replaces the previous K14B engine and increases the engine volume from 1.4 litres to 1.5 litres. This engine delivers 77kW and 138Nm of torque with a best-in-class power-to-weight ratio of 81kW per tonne. When compared to its competitors, it has an average 30% higher power-to-weight ratio.
Confirmed by Suzuki’s global head office in Japan, production for the South African Suzuki Baleno will begin in April 2022. The first customer deliveries are scheduled for June 2022.
